Pasty Ride 2012

On Saturday I took part in the 3rd annual Pasty Ride. It's the second time I've taken part.

The ride starts at Rafe's house in Watchfield, Oxfordshire, with a ride to Cirencester and back. We were joined by Matt, John, Pete and new this year, one of Rafe's neighbours, Chris.

I drove the 150 miles to get there on the Saturday morning, arriving in plenty of time. We were due to start at 10am but we didn't get away until nearer 11.

Matt was carrying a knee injury and wasn't even sure he could ride at all. He didn't want to let us down and started the ride with us.

The forecast for the day wasn't good. It looked like we were in for rain all day. We left with it drizzling. The rain was light so wasn't a real problem.

Just as we reached Lechlade, Matt was forced to turn back as the pain was too much. He said he would meet us for a pasty in Cirencester and meet us there in the car. We carried on to Bibury for our first tea stop at the Trout Farm. Fortunately, by the time we got there the rain had stopped. We parked our bike up and had a nice drink and a chat.

We then carried on to Cirencester. On the way, Chris was the first to get a puncture. After 10 mins of faffing and chatting we were on our way again.

When we arrived in Cirencenter, we met Matt for a pasty. I had the steak and stilton one with a portion of potato wedges. We then wandered over to the pub for a pint of cider. It was here Chris noticed he had another puncture.

After the cider, we left Matt who said he would meet us at the Cotswold Water Park for an ice cream. Once we were on our way, John darted off towards home and the rest of us made our way to the water park.

Once the four of us arrived, I got an ice cream and the sun came out specially for the occasion.

Next stop Rafe's house. We carried on riding through the countryside, up some decent hills with Chris, doing a good impression of John on the front of the ride, almost impossible to catch up with.

When we arrived back at Rafe's house, we all went our separate ways except for me as I was going for a curry that evening with him and Matt.

An enjoyable ride once again in a part of the country I don't normally ride in with like minded people I don't see very often. Can't wait until next time.
