Getting faster

I've not posted for just over a week so I thought I'd better let you know what I've been up to.

I didn't get much riding in last week because of one thing or another but I did smash some of my previous times.

On Friday, I was running late, and instead of taking the car, I took the bike in the car. I took my bike to a colleagues house and rode from there. I don't know if you remember, but it was the same place I started my commute from back in March. The last time I rode this route was on 6th April. My best time for the ride in had previously been 5m53s. That day I rode it in 4m55s. I'm pretty pleased with knocking off just short of a minute. However, the ride back to my car was better. My previous best was 14m45s. I smashed that time by doing the ride in 8m35s!

Yesterday I broke another personal best. My ride home was 39m54s averaging 14.9mph over 9.92 miles. What's even better is there was no tail wind helping me like my previous best for this route. In fact, there was a 7mph head wind.

My ribs are no longer hurting when riding and I'm trying to get more leisure miles in on the bike to see if I can complete the #July150. Having started late, I'm a way off but I'll see what I can do. I'm managed 58.65 miles so far but with me being away this Fri-Sun, it reduces my chances to get some extra miles in.

Changing the subject a bit, but sticking with bikes, I've been offered a road bike. My triathlete colleague said his wife is selling her Specialized Allez Triple and wondered if I'd be interested. Not sure I can afford it but he's said I can probably pay in instalments. Let's see what happens.

  2. As you know I'm a MTBer first and foremost (in my head anyway) but you can't beat a road bike for the road!
